Hey there everyone!
I was curious, is anyone a wrimo this year? Care to share what your projects are about? Is it going as planned, do you need a little more support? I think that as fellow authors, it would be nice to help each other.
For those of you that might not be so familiar with NaNoWriMo, I’ll make the introductions. The name literally means national novel writing month and it is basically a challenge for the month of November to write over 50k words on (theoretically) a brand new novel. Simple, right?
I’ll tell you what my project this November is about, and I hope to hear from you guys as well. So here I go:
My nano project is a collections of stories for a certain character in my main story. I’m basically writing 20 episodes about his background, how he grew up and moments that marked his life. He starts as a secluded child in a world of necromancers and ends up training to be as much a necromancer as an assassin, which is not very common in that society. In fact, it is a secret part of their society that organises everything, something like secret services if you like. Since this is not technically a novel, that would make me a nanowrimo rebel, but hey! 50k is 50k and I’m aiming for it.
So far so good for me. How about you? -

I feel late commenting, but I hope your NaNo project is going well.
I participate in NaNo for almost 9 years now. I just finished my 2019 project which is a dystopian and follows a brother and a sister who are scavengers in this futuristic world. During a salvage mission to one of the ‘ancient’ cities they uncover a secret underground laboratory and a girl in a cryogenic tank. They awake the girl and find themselves in more trouble than expected. The story turns into a journey across the new wilderness that has taken route in this future. The girl has amnesia but is aptly skilled in combat and weaponry, and they eventually discover she’s been genetically modified and enhanced (something that has since become illegal in the future). There is a confrontation with her ‘descendant’ family where they uncover a mad scheme to create super soldiers and world domination. In the end, the girl chooses the brother and sister over her family and accepts her new home.
I have another two books planned in this world, each from a different perspective of groups/class system. The other two are more coming of age stories while this one is defiantly more adventure based.

That sounds like a pretty awesome story, NJMcKay. I can actually picture the scenes in my mind like a movie trailer, so cool! And wow, 9 years of NaNoing must mean you sure know what you’re doing there. 50k words must be a piece of cake, I bet. In my case, it’s still a challenge, since this was just my 2nd go at NaNoWriMo, both times a winner somehow. This year I even finished early a few days, but I do have lots of dialogue and random nonsense I might or might not use later on. Next up, editing and more worldbuilding!
